Protect and restore damaged teeth

If you have teeth that are severely broken or stained, a dental crown fitted over the remains of them will not only hide unappealing teeth and improve your smile, but also protect the damaged tooth from further harm. Colour-matched to your existing teeth and entirely natural looking, a dental crown will help make eating more comfortable and give you a boost in confidence about your facial appearance.

Our highly skilled dentists in Brighton are experts at fitting dental crowns precisely to ensure they are bonded securely to your mouth and are of practical use. Dental implants are comfortable to wear and you won’t have to worry about revealing damaged teeth any longer.

To fit a dental crown in Brighton, the tooth over which it will be fitted must first be shaped in order to receive it. Once sufficient enamel has been removed, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth using dental putty, which will then be sent to the lab for your custom dental crown to be manufactured. A second appointment will then be made once the dental crown has been sent back to our practice near Brighton. During this second appointment, your dentist will bond the dental crown to your tooth.

Everything you need to know

Why do I need a crown?

The crown is a cap that is placed over a damaged tooth. It improves the appearance of your natural tooth and protects it from more damage. Crowns are also used to cover dental implants, protect weak teeth and cover broken or discoloured teeth.

Is the treatment painful?

A local anaesthetic will be used to ensure your comfort.

How will I look after a crown?

You’ll brush your crown in the same way you brush your teeth. You can also use dental floss to keep them clean.

Are there any problems associated with crowns?

Immediately after having a crown fitted, you might experience some sensitivity. Special toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth will correct this. If you have extended pain following the fitting of a crown, there is a chance it may need repositioning. If your crown is loose, or falls off, it may need cementing back in place.

What does the treatment involve?

You will have an x-ray to check the healthiness of the root of the natural tooth. Any infection will be cleared up under a local anaesthetic. The natural teeth will be filed down to make room for the crown, before impressions of the tooth are made and sent to the lab. Your custom crown will be created from the impression and sent back to us. We will then make an appointment for you to have it fitted.
