The Invisalign treatment process at Down House Dental in SteyningMany people yearn for straighter teeth, but some don’t want the obvious and brash appearance of traditional braces. At Down House Dental Practice, we offer Invisalign braces, a clear and plastic braces treatment. Over time, the braces gradually move your teeth into much more flattering position and can treat a number of teeth and mouth problems, not just the obvious straightening. Invisalign clear braces are discreet, comfortable and incredibly fast-acting. For many people, they’re the perfect alternative to traditional braces. Their clear outer shell means that only those who you want to know, will know you’re undergoing teeth alignment treatment. Our Invisalign expert, Dr Ian Goldsmith has given many patients Invisalign and knows exactly what course of treatment will give his patients the best possible results. But how exactly can you get straighter teeth through Invisalign? Three very easy steps.

The initial consultation

As with any dental treatment, we begin your journey to a more confident smile with a consultation. During this appointment, your suitability for the treatment will be assessed. We will take pre-treatment photos, which are so important as they will be used a comparison tool both after the treatment and all the way through each aligner stage. We will also take a 3D map of your mouth and teeth. This is to ensure that each one of your aligners fit your mouth perfectly. They will be tailor-made for your mouth and exact specifications, in order to give you the best possible results.

The aligners

As mentioned in the consultation, your aligners will be tailor-made to your exact mouth shape, so they fit you perfectly. One of the big differences between Invisalign and traditional metal braces are the replacement factor. With traditional metal braces, they are placed onto your teeth at the start of the treatment. Aside from the occasional tightening and the adding of bands, the brace remains the same. However, your Invisalign aligners are replaced by yourself every couple of weeks, to wear before you receive your new aligners at your next check-up. The process repeats itself throughout your entire treatment, with each aligner moving your teeth more in order to create your desired result.

Your brand-new smile!

You will need to visit us at Down House Dental Practice every 4-6 weeks. This is so we can monitor your results, check that your aligners remain the perfect shape for your mouth and that the treatment timeline does not need to be altered in anyway. Most importantly, at each appointment you will receive a new set of aligners which you’ll replace yourself every couple weeks at home. This constant change makes the treatment extremely effective and quick, since your teeth are constantly being moulded to correct your alignment issues.

Now you know what the Invisalign treatment involves, another question is are you suitable? Many people believe that invisible braces only treat crooked teeth which need to be straightened. This is absolutely false. Invisalign clear braces can treat a number of dental problems. One of which, you may be struggling with and had no idea that Invisalign is a solution for.

Overbite

An overbite is fairly common, with many people having a slight overbite. However, for some, their overbite is too large and rather protruding. This can lead to a dip in their self-confidence. A fairly large overbite is called a ‘deep bite’ and this can be fixed with Invisalign aligners.

Underbite

An underbite occurs when your close your mouth and your lower set of teeth overlap your top teeth. For many people, this is because your lower jaw is set too far forward. An underbite can cause many lifestyle problems, such as making chewing difficult and your teeth prematurely wearing down. For severe underbites, a combination of surgery and Invisalign aligners can fix it. However, for many underbite sufferers, Invisalign aligners alone are enough to correct the problem.

Open bite

You have an open bite if your top and bottom teeth do not meet in the middle. Like an underbite, an open bite can make chewing certain foods quite difficult. Due to your teeth not meeting in the middle, there is less of a direct bite.

This review is for Tesh the hygenist. I honestly can't recommend Tesh more highly. He is incredibly thorough and clearly knows what he's doing. Tesh is so good I have upped the amount of times I see him to every four months rather than every six. He keeps detailed notes of every visit so he can carefully track how I'm doing and help me target specific areas of concern. As I am getting older keeping my gums healthy becomes more important as I really want to keep as many teeth as possible in old age! Tesh is always upbeat, very encouraging and also keen to know how I and my family are doing.
